James Gunn releases Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 script online
Raking in a commendable $863.5 million across its worldwide release, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 remains one of the biggest cinematic events of the year, and now fans can experience the magic of James Gunn’s screenplay in its original form: on the page.
The director-writer announced Tuesday that the digital version of his script for the superhero sequel is available now online, free of charge, “as promised,” Gunn tweeted alongside a link to the draft.
Released in May, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reunites series actors Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket, the titular band of elite intergalactic crime-fighters hired by an alien race to protect a vital power source from intruders, though Rocket soon makes off with the very items the group was tasked with protecting, as an additional inquest into Star-Lord’s origins mounts.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy, which debuted in 2014, marked Pratt’s first major Hollywood hit as a lead actor, and facilitated his evolution from standout supporting player on NBC’s Parks and Recreation to bona fide movie star. A third Guardians film is currently slated for release in 2020.
“I think really that the three movies work together as a whole, they’re going to tell one story,” Gunn previously told EW of the franchise’s future. “This is the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and we’re going to get to know the characters even better in the same way we got to know them much better in this film than the first one… I wouldn’t have said yes if I didn’t have a fairly clear idea of where we were going and what we were going to do. I’m not a guy that’s just going to do it if I don’t have a vision for it. So, I’m very excited.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available now on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as digital platforms. Read the film’s complete screenplay here.
