Bob Weinstein gave Harvey $600,000 for payouts to keep Georgina Chapman in the dark

Harvey Weinstein‘s brother admitted to paying out £250,000 — the equivalent of $600,000 today — from his personal bank account in an effort to conceal sexual harassment and assault settlements against the movie mogul from his wife, Georgina Chapman.

Miramax cofounder Bob Weinstein told The New Yorker that the money was to be split between two female employees in England who accused Harvey of sexual misconduct in the 1990s. Bob used his own money to hide the incident from executives at Miramax and its parent company, Disney, in addition to keeping Chapman in the dark.

However, Bob told the outlet that he wasn’t aware of what the large sum was for.

“Regarding that payment, I only know what Harvey told me, and basically what he said was he was fooling around with two women and they were asking for money,” Bob told journalist Ronan Farrow. “And he didn’t want his wife to find out, so he asked me if I could write a check, and so I did, but there was nothing to indicate any kind of sexual harassment.”

A former senior executive Miramax told the outlet it was “implausible” that Bob wouldn’t have been aware of the allegations, as they were reported to the studio.

After The New York Times published the first bombshell exposé about Harvey that revealed eight women — including actress Ashley Judd — accused Harvey of sexual harassment, Bob (who is on the board that fired Harvey from The Weinstein Co.) called his brother “depraved.”

“I have a brother that’s indefensible and crazy,” Bob told The Hollywood Reporter. “I want him to get the justice that he deserves.”

Now, Bob is facing an accusation of sexual harassment himself.

Amanda Segel told Variety last month that while she was executive-producing the Weinstein Co. drama The Mist, Bob “repeatedly made romantic overtures to her and asked her to join him for private dinners.”

A representative for Bob denied the allegations in a statement to Variety: “Bob Weinstein had dinner with Ms. Segel in LA in June 2016. He denies any claims that he behaved inappropriately at or after the dinner. It is most unfortunate that any such claim has been made.”

On Oct. 10, Chapman announced she was leaving Weinstein following allegations of sexual misconduct. In a statement to PEOPLE, she said, “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered.” The Marchesa fashion designer has since met with divorce lawyers.

“Georgina is doing okay,” a source recently told PEOPLE. “She continues to focus on her family and work.”

The insider added, “She doesn’t want to be married to Harvey. She wants a divorce. It’s just not anything that she is rushing.”

Weinstein, 65, and Chapman, 41, married in 2007 and have two children together, ages 7 and 4. Weinstein also has three children from a previous marriage.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker documented decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed articles in early October.

A spokesperson for Weinstein previously told PEOPLE in a statement that “any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.
