Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head… while Mark Wahlberg and John Cena duked it out. The Christmas-themed festivities turn hostile and hilarious in EW’s exclusive new clip from Daddy’s Home 2, in which Wahlberg’s Dusty isn’t taking any you-know-what from his fatherly rival, Cena’s Roger.
In 2015’s Daddy’s Home, Dusty and Brad (Will Ferrell) may have reconciled their differences, but Wahlberg’s macho man found another adversary in his stepdaughter’s father, setting the stage nicely for a sequel. In Daddy’s Home 2, set for release this weekend, their animosity comes to a height over who gets to play Joseph in the Nativity scene.
Spurning them on is Mel Gibson as Dusty’s father, Kurt. “I’m a lot of things, but I’m not a heathen. Let’s take this outside,” he says, while an onlooker shouts, “Kick his ass, Joseph!”
Daddy’s Home 2, helmed by the original’s director, Sean Anders, sees what happens when Dusty and Brad meet each other’s fathers, Kurt and Don (John Lithgow). One is not safe for work, the other is ultra sensitive. The combination makes for an unforgettable holiday experience for their kids.
