Ty Burrell talks about playing a 'jerk' in Dawn of the Dead — exclusive clip
'Modern Family' star recalls his zombie-battling days in Blu-ray bonus feature
Dawn of the Dead boasted a notable array of talent both behind and in front of the camera. This 2004 remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 zombie classic was written by James Gunn and directed by Zack Snyder while the film’s cast included Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, Michael Kelly, Mekhi Phifer, and a pre-Modern Family Ty Burrell.
In a clip from Scream Factory’s just-released collector’s edition Blu-ray of Dawn of the Dead, Burrell recalls playing a character far removed from that of Phil Dunphy. “I started to have a lot more fun and not feel like, Oh, I might be doing this wrong, because I’m really playing this guy as a totally nihilistic jerk,” says the actor. “But he was. That’s what he was!”
Other new bonus features on the two-disc collector’s edition set include interviews with Gunn and Weber as well as a new HD master of the film’s unrated version.
