Meet St. Nick's daughter, who's taking the reins of Santa's sleigh
Christmas came early this week as Anna Kendrick revealed the first look at herself suited up for what’s pegged as Disney’s female Santa Claus movie. The Pitch Perfect star showed off her costume as the daughter of good ol’ St. Nick in the upcoming film from director-screenwriter Marc Lawrence (Music and Lyrics).
“It begins….. N O E L L E,” Kendrick, seen in a green outfit next to a neon “Cold Beer” sign, wrote on Instagram.
When her casting was first revealed, the film was reportedly called Nicole, with Kendrick playing Kris Kringle’s daughter who takes over Christmas duties when her dad retires and brother gets cold feet. Now, as confirmed by Disney, it’s called Noelle, which really drives home the Christmas connection.
Other things to look forward to are Shirley McClain as Kendrick’s on-screen elf nanny, and appearances from Saturday Night Live vet Bill Hader and American Horror Story: Cult‘s Billy Eichner. The film is scheduled for release on Nov. 8, 2019.
Disney previous delved into the depths of a reluctant Santa sub with Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause movies. Kendrick seems up for the challenge, what with past holiday genre movie experience with 2014’s Happy Christmas and her forthcoming Trolls animated holiday special.
