“Josh Brolin Got Jacked AF For Deadpool 2 And Holy God Yes,” read a BuzzFeed headline this week, after Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds posted a photo of Brolin flexing his biceps.
But as Deadpool 2 obsessives (and Brolin’s Instagram followers) know, the actor — who plays Cable in the forthcoming sequel — hasn’t been shy about the physical transformation he’s undergone for the part. Brolin frequently posts videos and photos of his workout routines to social media and has an activewear line, Prevail.
“Josh sent me a few photos of Cable that he liked,” Brolin’s trainer, Justin Lovato, told Men’s Journal earlier this year. “I mean, the character is all arms and has a huge upper body. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, but I also knew how to help him get it done. Josh came ready to put in the work. For six weeks straight we were getting into the gym for at least three hours a day.”
According to Reynolds, the workouts have paid dividends. “I’ve spent this last week on the business end of many Josh Brolin punches — both verbal and physical and literal — and it’s going to be pretty fantastic,” Reynolds told Fandango earlier this month. “He’s going to be epic.”
Indeed. Just look at these photos (and videos).
Deadpool 2 is out next summer.
