John Boyega says Pacific Rim: Uprising is 'larger than life'
John Boyega has an important new movie about the 1967 Detroit riots (Detroit) opening in wide release this weekend. He also will be starring later this year in the latest installment in the biggest franchise from a galaxy far, far away (Star Wars: The Last Jedi). So we naturally talked to him about both of those things when he stopped by EW Morning Live (Entertainment Weekly Radio, SiriusXM, channel 105).
But we also needed to know his feelings on giant robot-Kaiju hand-to-hand combat! That's right, ladies and gentlemen — Pacific Rim: Uprising will be stomping into theaters in February of 2018 and Boyega is at the center of both the story and a massive monster-battling Jaeger suit. Taking place in 2030, 10 years after the events of the original film, Uprising introduces us to Boyega's Jake Pentecost — son of Idris Elba's Stacker from the original. According to the star, it will also introduce us to more insane fight sequences.
"It's going to be so cool," says Boyega. "This is a fun movie. It's there to entertain. It's larger than life. Just go in there looking to have a great time. Get you popcorn nice and warm. Your eyes are going to be peeled. We've got a spectacle and [Guillermo] Del Tor's influence is still there. It's going to be really, really cool." <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/335946346&color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" class="" allowfullscreen="" resize="0" replace_attributes="1" name=""></iframe>
Of course it's going to be cool. It's giant robots! And monsters! And John Boyega!
