Ian McShane is the new proud papa of a demonic antihero.

The American Gods and Deadwood star is joining the cast of Lionsgate and Millennium’s reboot Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, EW has confirmed. McShane will play Professor Broom, Hellboy’s adoptive father and mentor.

Stranger Things star David Harbour is already on board to play Hellboy, a red-hued supernatural being who eschews his preordination as a harbinger of the apocalypse and instead fights the forces of darkness. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) is directing Rise of the Blood Queen, which is slated to begin production in September.

McShane plays Mr. Wednesday on American Gods and was last seen on the big screen in John Wick: Chapter 2 and the British boxing drama Jawbone.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
