Cult classic to be released on Blu-ray, Aug. 1
James Gunn’s directorial debut Slither is one of the most jaw-droppingly grotesque horror films ever made — and that’s meant as a huge compliment. Now, this Nathan Fillion-starring alien invasion tale is finally getting a Blu-ray release courtesy of the Shout! Factory imprint, Scream Factory. The extras include a new interview with Gunn in which, among other things, he recalls overseeing the visual effects required to depict the fate of Brenda James’ character Brenda Gutierrez, who is monstrously transformed by her infected husband (Michael Rooker) in the course of the film.
“The ‘Brenda-blob’ is something I worked really hard on,” says the Guardians of the Galaxy director in a just-released clip from the interview. “They kept on giving me designs of Brenda-blobs, and I kept drawing her, and I’m like, ‘No! She’s like this! She’s like a big, you know, boob with her head as a nipple. Basically, a big round thing, a big round thing! They kept being like, ‘That’s ridiculous! Gravity would make her sag!’ And I’m like, I don’t care!'”
