MEN IN BLACK, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, 1997

Twenty years ago, on July 2, 1997, Men in Black arrived in theaters and dominated the box office. The sci-fi comedy favorite, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (Get Shorty, The Addams Family), was imaginative and funny, the perfect combination to solidify Will Smith’s bonafide megastar status after Independence Day (…but before Wild Wild West). The film went on to make $589 million worldwide.

Surprisingly, the list of notable names who didn’t want to be involved in Men in Black is long — both Quentin Tarantino and John Landis passed on directing the movie, and Clint Eastwood, Chris O’Donnell, and David Schwimmer all turned down offers for the lead roles. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones went on to make two more films in the franchise, and there have been recent rumblings of a potential crossover film with the boys of 21 Jump Street.

Until that happens, put your memory of the zany alien outlaw movie to the test and take the quiz below!
