Lily Collins battles anorexia in first To The Bone trailer

To the Bone, Marti Noxon's darkly funny dramedy about a young woman struggling with an eating disorder, premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, and now, EW has an exclusive first look at the moving first trailer.

Lily Collins stars as the wry, 20-year-old Ellen, who can reel off calorie counts without hesitation and who's spent most of her life in and out of various anorexia treatment centers. When her stepmother (Carrie Preston) sends her to a new treatment facility, Ellen expects to find more of the same, but she's surprised to connect with the center's nontraditional program, led by an unconventional doctor (Keanu Reeves).

Both Collins and Noxon have been open in the past about their own struggles with eating disorders, and Noxon, who's best known for her TV work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, UnREAL, and Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, used her own experiences as inspiration for her directorial debut. When To the Bone premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, Noxon recapped her film's debut for EW in a photo diary and wrote a little about why she was moved to make such a personal film.

"What I'm trying to do is bring understanding and compassion to an issue that touches way more people than we realize," she wrote. "And I want more people to talk about how much food and body image affect men and women and keep us from loving the moment we're in."

To the Bone will premiere on Netflix on July 14.
