With great power comes great responsibility — and some rousing theme music.
As Tom Holland’s wall-crawler nears his solo crimefighting debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming, EW has an exclusive preview of the score, by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (Lost, Up). Fittingly for a teenage superhero, the six-minute “Spider-Man: Homecoming Suite” swings from thrilling to ominous to whimsical and back again.
Homecoming marks Giacchino’s second Marvel score, following last year’s Doctor Strange, and the track list offers a few clues about what to expect this time around. In addition to featuring the classic 1960s “Theme From Spider-Man” (which Giacchino teased on social media), it hints at scenes with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man (“Stark Raving Mad,” “A Stark Contrast”) and Michael Keaton’s Vulture (“Pop Vulture,” “Vulture Clash”).
Director Jon Watts has also told EW that Homecoming will offer a different point of view than previous Marvel movies.
“We’ve seen the Marvel universe from the very dramatic penthouse perspective of Tony Stark,” Watts said earlier this year. “Now we see what it looks like on the ground through the eyes of a 15-year-old.”
