John Lithgow stars as Will Ferrell's pop

The ending of Daddy’s Home nicely set the stage for a comedic sequel with the introduction of John Cena as a new fatherly rival for Mark Wahlberg’s Dusty. But as the first Daddy’s Home 2 trailer makes clear, it’s all about the grandpas.

We pick up with stepdad Brad (Will Ferrell) finding familial bliss in working as a team with Dusty to raise their kids, but the latest disruption comes when they welcome the grandparents into the home for Christmas. Mel Gibson plays Dusty’s old-school dad, Kurt, who’s nothing like Brad’s overly affectionate father, played by John Lithgow.

“It’s only been two weeks, but it feels like forever,” Lithgow exclaims in character.

Cena is still a part of the cast, along with Linda Cardellini, but chaos erupts in trying to bring these two sides of the family together for the kids. Sparks already flair when the grandkids flock to one grandparent instead of the other, which then prompts Dusty’s old man to overcompensate with a story about two dead hookers.

Daddy’s Home 2 hits theaters on Nov. 10. Watch the trailer above.
