The 'This Is Us' star lives an underwater nightmare

It’s Mandy Moore versus the terrors of the deep in a new, frightening trailer for 47 Meters Down. Unlike last year’s big shark movie, The Shallows with Blake Lively, this film from director Johannes Roberts sees two scuba-diving sisters racing to the water’s surface before they’re torn apart by Great White sharks.

The This Is Us star plays Lisa, who vacations in Mexico with her sister, Kate (Claire Holt), after a breakup. Their take-life-by-the-horns outlook turns dangerous when a shark-diving excursion goes nightmarishly wrong: the support wire to their protective cage snaps, plummeting the women down to the ocean’s depths.

Based on the trailer, there will be plenty of jump scares and close calls with these oceanic beasts as Lisa and Kate’s oxygen slowly dwindles.

“The majority of the movie is us completely freaking out,” Moore told EW. “Imagine somebody who’s at the bottom of the ocean, who’s never gone diving before, doesn’t know how to clear her air or what any of her equipment does. It’s the f—ing most terrifying nightmare on the planet to her. Most of the time I was shooting, I would be going through my [oxygen] tank in two seconds because I was hyperventilating.”

47 Meters Down hits theaters this June 16. Watch the trailer above.
