What a time to be alive

The released-earlier-this-week tracklisting for Awesome Mix Vol. 2 — the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — contained a lot of great vintage music and one big, eyebrow-raiser of a surprise in the form of a new, final song called “Guardians Inferno,” which is credited to “The Sneepers Ft. David Hasselhoff.”

No offense to the Hoff (okay, maybe a tiny bit of offense to the Hoff) but the Baywatch star and big-in-Germany singer does seem like something of an outlier alongside the likes of Sam Cooke, George Harrison, Cat Stevens, Parliament, Electric Light Orchestra, Sweet, and Fleetwood Mac.

Hoff-heads will have to wait until the May 5 release of director James Gunn’s superhero sequel to find out just why their hero was invited to drive his metaphorical talking car onto the film’s musical parking lot. But everyone can now hear “Guardians Inferno,” above.

Awesome Mix Vol. 2 is out now.
