Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniel Espinosa’s collaboration is larger than Life.

The respective star and director of the new space-set thriller (opening Friday) are reteaming to bring the Rolling Stone article “The Anarchists vs. ISIS” to the big screen, per an announcement Thursday.

Written by Seth Harp and published last month, the article centers on a ragtag team of American radicals who are fighting alongside the Kurdish militia known as the YPG to defeat ISIS in Syria and establish an anarchist collective amid the rubble.

Gyllenhaal is expected to star, with Espinosa directing. They will also produce alongside Riva Marker, of Gyllenhaal’s Ninestories production company, and Michel Litvak, of Bold Films. Michael Walters will executive produce.

Marker said in a statement, “Thematically, we’re often attracted to material about the search for identity, especially in a world where it’s become easier to feel less and less connected. Seth’s story is about people who abandon everything that’s familiar as a means to connect in the most brutal of circumstances.”

Gyllenhaal was most recently seen in Tom Ford’s psychological thriller Nocturnal Animals, while Espinosa’s previous credits include Safe House and Child 44.
