Alien: Covenant trailer gets up close and personal with a xenomorph
The new trailer for Alien: Covenant features a familiar face — one coated with slime and filled with rows of gnashing teeth. That’s right, the dreaded creature known as the xenomorph is back in action for Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi film, which serves as a bridge between 2012’s Prometheus and 1979’s original Alien.
Starring Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Michael Fassbender, and more, the film follows the crew of the spaceship Covenant as they set out on humanity’s first-ever large-scale colonization mission. As shown in the trailer, they touch down on what seems to be a hospitable planet but may prove too good to be true.
Why, for example, is wheat growing so far from Earth? And why is it so quiet? “You hear that?” one crew member asks. “Nothing — no birds, no animals, nothing.”
Things get loud soon enough, as the would-be settlers are menaced by extraterrestrial threats both new (ear-invading black spores, back-bursting parasites) and old (facehuggers, the xenomorph). Take a look above.
