Nearly a decade after the release of her last solo single, Lindsay Lohan has announced she will sing again… if Disney gives her the chance.
In a plea to the studio to cast her in her first major theatrical role since 2013’s Scary Movie 5, the 30-year-old actress and vocalist has posted a side-by-side Instagram photo featuring herself and a rendering of Ariel from Disney’s 1989 hit The Little Mermaid, asking the house of mouse to consider her for the part in a remake.
“I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid [if] @Disney approve that #billcondon directs it,” she said Sunday, referencing the Oscar-winning screenwriter and director who previously worked on films including Chicago, Dreamgirls, and Gods and Monsters. Condon’s latest film, a live-action interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, hits theaters on March 17.
Lohan has since edited the post, simplifying the caption to “#thelittlemermaid,” but before doing so, she also indicated she envisions the project being a family affair, probing Disney to hire her sister, Aliana Lohan, to sing the potential production’s theme song.
Disney did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment, though a source close to Lohan did confirm she actively “wants to do” a new version of The Little Mermaid for the studio that once helped launch her movie career with tween comedies Freaky Friday, The Parent Trap, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. In November, Lin-Manuel Miranda said he was “in super-early talks” to work on a live-action version of the movie for Disney.
Sofia Coppola was, at one point, attached to direct an adaptation of the original Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, but later dropped out of the Universal and Working Title film due to creative differences.
Though she hasn’t fronted a mainstream movie since playing Elizabeth Taylor in the 2012 Lifetime biopic Liz & Dick, Lohan made headlines at the center of her 2014 docuseries Lindsay, which premiered in March 2014 on the Oprah Winfrey Network. She has since filmed the upcoming horror flick The Shadow Within, about a private investigator who moonlights as a werewolf, written a treatment for a Mean Girls sequel, and, in January, had a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, during which she reportedly discussed the Syrian refugee crisis.
