Colin Farrell in talks for Sofia Coppola's remake of The Beguiled
He would join Kristen Dunst, Nicole Kidman, and Elle Fanning
Colin Farrell is looking to turn on the charm. The Irish actor is in talks to star in writer-director Sofia Coppola’s remake of the Civil War drama The Beguiled, EW has confirmed.
Farrell would step into the role played by Clint Eastwood in the 1971 original: a wounded Yankee soldier with a silver tongue who stirs up trouble at an all-girls boarding school in in the South.
Should the talks pan out, Farrell will join a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Kristen Dunst, and Elle Fanning. Youree Henley (Somewhere, The Bling Ring) is producing The Beguiled, which is set up at Focus Features. A production start date has yet to be announced.
Farrell recently appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’ surreal comedy The Lobster, and he and Kidman have also signed on for another Lanthimos film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Farrell will next be seen in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the thriller Solace.
Variety first reported the talks.
