John Legend and Cynthia Erivo perform 'God Only Knows' for Grammys In Memoriam
John Legend and Cynthia Erivo delivered a special In Memoriam performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
To honor the iconic musicians lost over the last year, Legend and Erivo performed “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys. A video montage then paid tribute to Prince, Merle Haggard, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Debbie Reynolds, Phife Dawg, George Martin, and Sharon Jones, as well as multiple other artists.
Erivo was nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at this year’s Grammys for her role in The Color Purple, which also landed her the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Earlier this week, news broke that she’d perform the lead role in the upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic.
Legend has 10 Grammy Awards to his name. He’s making the rounds at other awards shows this season as an executive producer of and actor in La La Land, which is up for the best picture Oscar, among others.
