Slowpoke gets frosted tips — plus some other important Pokémon news
Slowpoke already fulfilled a New Year's resolution. What have you been doing?
A new year marks a time of rebirth. It’s a time for new beginnings and an excuse to make a change without having to go into any further detail in the face of your nosey Aunt Sherry. (“I dyed my hair because I just felt like it. Gah!”) In that spirit, Slowpoke, a typical Taurus who’s not quick to embrace change, has finally gone ahead and done something that the Aunt Sherrys of the world would definitely notice and comment on over a wine-sloshed Thanksgiving dinner.
Slowpoke unveiled the new look during the big Pokémon Direct announcements that happened Thursday morning, waltzing in during the footage for the new Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion DLC packs. If you, too, would like to replicate this frost-tipped makeover at home, go to your local salon and ask for the “Galarian” ‘do.
If you want to get this look in the game itself, available if you completed the latest update Thursday, this Slowpoke-who’s-focusing-more-on-their-own-self-esteem-this-year can be found at the Wedgehurst train station. Keep an eye out for Klara (if you’re playing Sword) or Avery (if you’re playing Shield), because good taste attracts good taste and Slowpoke won’t be far behind.
Rumor has it Galarian Slowpoke also has additional surprise wardrobe changes planned and will evolve into either Galarian Slowbro or Galarian Slowking. (The Isle of Armor expansion DLC coming June 2020 will have an item to turn the gold-headed stunner into Galarian Slowbro, and The Crown Tundra DLC coming fall 2020 will have something to evolve them into Galarian Slowking.) No word yet on whether wigs are involved.
Some other news was announced Thursday, like the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team remake as Nintendo Switch’s Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, but the Slowpoke feeling themself is the energy we need in 2020.
