'Walking Dead': New Season 3 Photos!
After a record-shattering season 2, The Walking Dead picks up with a spate of new faces and places. Perhaps most anticipated of the new characters is katana-sword-swinging Michonne, a fan favorite from the Walking Dead comics. Kicking butt is something viewers can expect early and often from Michonne. (In fact, actress Danai Gurira prepared for the role through sword training and repeated viewings of samurai films.)
One of Michonne's many badass attiributes: She keeps armless, jawless zombies on chains as pets (including one played here by actor Thesay West). As season 3 gets under way, Michonne forms a strong bond with tortured sharpshooter Andrea (Laurie Holden, right), though that bond will quickly be tested.
The two women find themselves at odds when they arrive at the idyllic Woodbury settlement run by another new arrival from the comics — the Governor (David Morrissey).
Fans of the show will recognize Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker), whom we ?last saw on a roof with his wrist handcuffed to a pipe back in season 1. After escaping what seemed like a zombie death sentence, Merle comes to Woodbury equipped with a bayonet appendage where his right hand used to be and a questionable sense of loyalty.
Elsewhere, we pick back up with the wandering survivors led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln, left). One big season-starting question: How will the group — including Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Merle's crossbow-wielding redneck brother — cope in the wake of two deaths and Andrea's separation?
Rick, Glenn (Steven Yeun), and the survivors break into a prison and attempt to clear out all the zombies and make it their new home.
Glenn takes a wait-and-slam-this-bar-into-a-zombie's-skull approach to clearing out the prison of walkers. Never a moment's rest on The Walking Dead.
