'Voice': Meet the Top 16!
Coming from a large family in Texas, Amber is a country artist who has been singing for 10 years. Amber looks to Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, and Martina McBride as inspiration, and once sang with David Foster, Kenny G, and Katharine McPhee at a benefit concert in Malibu.
Hailing from Missouri, Caroline is an indie/folk singer currently studying education at the University of Kansas. She is a big fan of Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, and Ben Folds, and she plays the guitar, ukulele, and piano.
Growing up in Southern California with her mom playing keyboard and her dad on bass, Judith has had every opportunity to develop her voice. She is trained in jazz and was Michael Jackson's duet partner for his ''This Is It,'' tour before he passed away. Judith sings with Stevie Wonder on a fairly regular basis and counts artists like Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson as her biggest influences.
Originally from Alabama, Sarah is currently based in Memphis, performing her unique blend of rock/soul/blues accompanied by piano and guitar. She has been singing since she was a child and loves musicians like Billie Holiday, Brandi Carlile, and Bob Dylan.
Danielle is a 16-year-old country artist from Texas who has never had a vocal lesson. With natural talent, her cousin encouraged her to start singing, and Danielle soon had her first performance at a church festival. Citing Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert. and Martina McBride as her musical influences, Danielle hopes The Voice will be her first ''big gig.''
Born in Alabama but now living in Bowling Green, Ky., Justin is a country artist who plays a number of instruments including guitar, keyboard, banjo, and mandolin. A worship leader at his local church, Justin is a Grammy-nominated artist with his former band, Austin's Bridge. He loves riding motorcycles and listens to the music of John Mayer, Keith Urban, and Stevie Wonder.
A full-time student at Baylor University — where she plays the saxophone in the marching band — Holly has been singing since she was three years old. She also plays the guitar and piano and strives to ''present songs, not simply sing them.'' A self-described ''hopeless romantic,'' Holly's favorite movie is Titanic.
The Swon Brothers
Country-singing siblings, Colton and Zach, hail from Oklahoma. As kids they grew up with Southern gospel music, which sparked their interest in becoming musicians, and they are now fans of Keith Urban and the Eagles. With big personalities, often providing the comic relief, the brothers' close relationship keeps them on track to fulfilling their goals and musical ambitions.
Sasha is a New Yorker who plays piano and sings rock/soul music. She sings songs that allow her to connect to an emotion or mood, regardless of genre, and has a very close connection with her family and two children.
Garrett is back for his second try on The Voice, bringing his funky pop/rock/blues style. He grew up around music and watched his mom and dad play together in a band. This 17-year-old high school student from New Jersey also plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, ukulele, and mandolin and is inspired by everyone from the Beatles to the Black Keys to Bruno Mars.
Karina was encouraged to pursue a career in music by her grandmother who loved to listen to her sing in church. She is a Latina from Florida who is very open about her sexuality and just married her partner last November. Karina has developed a signature gospel/R&B style and recently started teaching voice lessons to elementary school kids.
After being signed to a label, but later dropped, Kris is ready to pull out all the stops on his path to music success. The pop/soul singer from Memphis, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, has been singing with his family and playing the piano since he was five. He is a huge fan of Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars, and Adele.
Michelle is returning to The Voice stage for the second time. She didn't make a team last season, but with the encouragement of season 2's Tony Lucca, she is back to prove she has what it takes. Fluent in French, she is an indie/pop artist who plays the piano and guitar, and enjoys listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Robyn, and Imogen Heap.
Born in the Bronx, 19-year-old Cathia attended LaGuardia High School, a.k.a. the Fame school, and has performed at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater. Cathia is inspired by Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion, and is currently studying music business at Baruch College in N.Y.
Originally from Arkansas, Josiah currently lives in Los Angeles working as a model while he pursues his career in music. Not only does Josiah sing, he can also beatbox and loves to ride motorcycles.
VEDO is an R&B singer from Atlanta. Crediting Usher and Michael Jackson as his inspirations, he is right at home with his coach. He hopes to use his experience on The Voice to launch a successful career that will help him take care of his mom, who is battling cancer. With his quick wit, VEDO provides the comic relief for his teammates.
