The Hills, then and now

Credit: Jeff Lipsky/MTV

Twelve years ago, The Hills made its debut on MTV. Starring Laguna Beach alum Lauren Conrad and featuring a supporting cast of Whitney Port, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner, and Lo Bosworth, among others, the show ran for six seasons and became one of the network's most successful reality shows. In anticipation of the newly announced reboot The Hills: New Beginnings, here's a rundown of the original cast, then and now.

Editor’s note: This gallery was originally published May 31, 2016, on the 10th anniversary of The Hills’ premiere, and most recently updated Aug. 21, 2018.

Lauren Conrad

After stepping back from Laguna Beach in 2005, Conrad got her own spin-off show in The Hills. The series followed the former Laguna Beach High School student as she made her way to Los Angeles to chase her fashion dreams. She left The Hills in the show's fifth season and kicked off a successful business career in the lifestyle space soon after. Conrad published her first book in 2009, the novel L.A. Candy, and went on to release additional works of fiction and best-selling guides like Lauren Conrad Style, Lauren Conrad Beauty, and Lauren Conrad Celebrate. The reality alum expanded her empire with fashion lines, blogs, and retail collections. Conrad married musician William Tell in 2014, and the couple welcomed a baby boy, Liam James, in July 2017. Conrad won't be returning for New Beginnings, but a source says she “wishes everyone the best.”

Audrina Patridge

Patridge joined The Hills for the length of its run, becoming a close personal friend to Conrad and adding drama to the show thanks to her relationships with the likes of Justin Bobby and Ryan Cabrera. After the final episode aired in 2010, Patridge continued her reality TV career with a stint on Dancing With the Stars. She competed on the show's 11th season, placing seventh with partner Tony Dovolani. She went on to lead the short-lived reality show Audrina in 2011, and served as a host for NBC's travel series 1st Look from 2014 to 2015. Patridge also tried her hand at an acting career with appearances in Sorority Row, Dream Maker, and Scary Movie 5. The reality star recently split with her BMX rider husband, Corey Bohan, and the pair share custody of their daughter, Kirra Max Bohan. Patridge has signed on to appear in the Hills reboot. Also being rebooted: Patridge's relationship with Ryan Cabrera.

Whitney Port

Port was introduced to The Hills as one of Conrad's fellow interns at Teen Vogue in the show's first season. She stuck around for two years before picking up her own spin-off series in The City. Airing from 2008 to 2010, the series followed Port as she moved to New York City, started a job with People's Revolution, and worked on her own fashion line, Whitney Eve. In recent years, Port has served as a judge and host on shows like Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend and Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model; cameoed in What to Expect When You're Expecting; and married former The City associate producer Tim Rosenman. The couple welcomed a baby, Sonny Sanford, in July 2017. Port announced on Instagram that she will be returning for The Hills: New Beginnings.

Lo Bosworth

Conrad's best friend from Laguna Beach High School appeared on The Hills for five seasons after graduating from UCLA. Soon after the show's wrap, Bosworth started a lifestyle website, The Lo Down, also releasing a book by the same in 2011. In recent years, Bosworth moved to New York City, graduated from the International Culinary Center, and made appearances as herself on shows including Chelsea Lately and Unique Sweets. She won't be returning for the Hills reboot.

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt

Credit: Jeff Lipsky/MTV; Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Known collectively as "Speidi," Montag and Pratt became The Hills’ most-hated couple after Pratt joined the show in its second season. Conrad's former best friend and Brody Jenner's villainous bro started dating in 2007, going on to tie the knot in a 2009 ceremony that was featured in an episode of The Hills. While Montag pursued both singing and acting careers, both she and Pratt are still best known for reality TV, thanks to appearances on Celebrity Big Brother; I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!; and Marriage Boot Camp. Speidi welcomed baby Gunner Stone in October 2017, and brought the youngster with them to the MTV Video Music Awards this year to announce they'll be joining the reboot.

Better known as Justin Bobby, Brescia was Patridge's on-again, off-again boyfriend for five seasons of The Hills. The musician stayed away from reality TV after the show's final season in 2010, choosing instead to focus on music with the band BobbyRock. He has announced that he'll be a part of The Hills: New Beginnings.

Emily Weiss

One of the most successful alums of The Hills, Weiss only appeared in three episodes of the series, in 2007. She was featured in the second season as a New York-based intern for Teen Vogue who threatened to upstage Conrad and Port at the magazine. She worked for W and Vogue after her stint on the show, going on to found the lifestyle blog Into The Gloss in 2010. She now also serves as founder and CEO of the high-end beauty company Glossier.

Stephanie Pratt

Spencer Pratt's sister, Stephanie Pratt, was introduced in the third season of The Hills. A friend to the women, Stephanie often found herself caught in the middle thanks to Spencer and Heidi's fights with one another and the other castmates. After the show, she made appearances on Made in Chelsea and Celebrity Big Brother, released the tell-all book Made in Reality, and developed a jewelry collection. Pratt will join her brother and sister-in-law in the upcoming Hills reboot.

Kristin Cavallari

Cavallari followed Conrad from Laguna Beach to The Hills, joining the latter show for two seasons. Adding to her résumé with acting roles in Veronica Mars, CSI: NY, and The Middle, Cavallari also competed on the 13th season of Dancing With the Stars in 2011. Cavallari continued her small-screen work with hosting and cameo appearances and released a book, Balancing in Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making it all Work, in 2016. She married NFL player Jay Cutler in 2013 and is the mother to three children with the athlete. Cavallari returned to reality TV this year with her E! show Very Cavallari, which follows her and her husband managing their fashion and lifestyle brand, Uncommon James, in Nashville. That series is reportedly the reason she won't be participating in the Hills reboot.

Brody Jenner

The same year he started appearing on The Hills as a friend and love interest to Conrad and Cavallari, Jenner also made his debut on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The son of Caitlyn Jenner, Brody continued to pop up on KUWTK for years after The Hills aired its final episode. Starring alongside his Kardashian step-sisters and half-sisters, he also dropped in on I Am Cait for one 2015 episode and led the short-lived talk show Sex With Brody the same year. This year he got married to lifestyle blogger Kaitlynn Carter and has been working as a DJ. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he's in talks to return for New Beginnings.

After appearing in a handful of Laguna Beach episodes, Bunney made her way to The Hills for a few seasons. A friend of Conrad's, she largely abandoned her TV career after The Hills. She graduated from USC in the late 2000s, going on to earn master's degrees in public health and business fields and begin coursework for a doctorate. She married Taylor Dunphy in 2014, and now works and studies in the public health space. Bunney is godmother to Speidi's baby, Gunner Stone, but won't be returning for the Hills reboot.

Jason Wahler

Credit: MTV; Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Partially responsible for Lisa Love's famed quote of "Lauren didn't go to Paris," Wahler was Conrad's on-again, off-again boyfriend for three seasons of The Hills. He came to the show after appearing on Laguna Beach and returned to reality television in 2010 for a stint on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. He's since addressed his struggles with addiction, taking to Instagram in April to share that he recently relapsed after years of sobriety and dedicating himself to helping others get sober. He married Ashley Slack in 2013, and they welcomed baby Delilah Ray in 2017. Wahler has been announced as a returning cast member in the The Hills: New Beginnings.
