Oscars 2016: Best & Worst Dressed
Oscars 2016: Best & Worst Dressed
The stars walked the red carpet outside of Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on Sunday, but some looks were more successful than others. Check out the best and worst dressed of the 2016 Oscars, ahead.
BEST: Alicia Vikander
The Swedish star opted for strapless Louis Vuitton — which, with its silver embroidery and playfully poofy hem — channels Beauty and the Beast's Belle (in the best possible way).
Consider this look reason No. 890342432 why we’re obsessed with this man. Common – with a slim white suit and edgy black bow tie – looks oh-so-cool, especially with some unexpected bling in the form of a sharp stars pin.
BEST: Daisy Ridley
As one of the brightest stars in the Star Wars universe, Daisy Ridley dazzled in an ankle-length, delicately detailed sheath dress with a dropped waist that transported fashion fans to galaxies far, far away.
BEST: Charlize Theron
She may have rocked a bald head, a dust-streaked face and dirty cargo pants in Mad Max, but Charlize Theron pulled a major 180 in this fierce scarlet gown accented with thin sexy straps and a down-to-there neckline.
BEST: Lady Gaga
All hail Lady Gaga: This crisp, white Dior-inspired pantsuit designed by her former stylist Brandon Maxwell is a lesson in classic glamour.
BEST: Rachel McAdams
She may be known as Canada’s sweetheart, but Rachel McAdams vamped it up Oscars night with a halter-necked, high-slit emerald number from designer August Getty Atelier.
BEST: Priyanka Chopra
Let’s give it up to the former beauty queen turned small screen star, because she is absolutely slaying in that Zuhair Murad dress. With its sweetheart neckline and fishtail hem, Chopra’s gown makes the most of a standard red carpet silhouette but kicks things up a notch thanks to that killer contrast of sheer, ethereal white and edgy metallic belt.
BEST: Margot Robbie
She may not be nominated for an Academy Award, but Margot Robbie is giving us major Oscar vibes in a gold snakeskin-print dress with a deep, plunging neckline.
BEST: Olivia Munn
What’s better than a tall, delicious cool refreshing glass of orange juice? Um, that’d be Olivia Munn dressed in this glamorous, tangerine-hued Stella McCartney gown, which manages to look classic and edgy, thanks to its stunning one-shoulder capelet.
BEST: Saoirse Ronan
Just 13 when she was nominated for Atonement, Saoirse Ronan looks all grown up in this stunning Calvin Klein gown. Also, extra points for wearing kelly green – a gorgeous nod to her Irish roots.
BEST: Jacob Tremblay
It’s safe to say that Jacob Tremblay is one of the best dressed of the night, in an adorable pint-sized Armani suit accessorized with Darth Vader socks, because why not?
BEST: Cate Blanchett
If there’s a single person in the world who could get away with outrageous 3-D flowers and blue feathers, it's Cate Blanchett.
WORST: Tom Hooper
The Danish Girl director Tom Hooper may be a talent extraordinaire but his wrinkled, messy suit is definitely lacking. Next time, he should seek out style advice from his leading man Eddie Redmayne, who always looks sharp.
WORST: Olivia Wilde
Let’s start with the best: The Vinyl star’s Maison Valentino haute couture is a stunner, especially with its sweet pleats and spectacularly exaggerated shoulders. Now, on to the worst aspect of that look: Is she wearing a pooch’s collar? No, seriously – because that oversized choker looks like it came straight from the doghouse.
WORST: Heidi Klum
Supermodel Heidi Klum's dress: a mess of dollar store tulle and puffy, tacked-on flowers. We. Officially. Can't.
WORST: Jennifer Jason Leigh
Unfortunately, we can’t confirm whether any birds were harmed in the making of the hot mess that is Jennifer Jason Leigh’s Rodarte dress.
WORST: Jared Leto
Seems like someone is taking his role as the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie super seriously, ‘cause this suit – with red piping detail and a super-oddly placed red carnation – is pure comedy. Also, we miss the man-bun.
WORST: Sofia Vergara
Same dress, different awards season: Sofia Vergara could literally wear anything and look hot – but the fact that she keeps opting for the same silhouette year after year is a total snooze-fest.
WORST: Kevin Hart
With all the time on the road, how did he find time to bedazzle his suit jacket?
