Oscars: 19 Snubs That Bug You!

The most glaring omission here is Christopher Nolan.... The Academy recognizes Inception as one of the year's best films, but doesn't feel the director deserved a nomination??? Nolan is one of the best, if not the best, directors working today. I can't wait to see what he does with the next Batman but I'm more excited about seeing some more of his and his brothers' original stories come to the big screen. —Christopher Hickey
Audiences like Nolan. Critics like Nolan. The Academy does not. Ah well, I can't see him caring. He wants to get on with making movies. —Mike

No editing nom for Inception?! Ridiculous. —Jon
Seriously, the last 40 minutes of that movie was like a master class in editing. Like gangbusters it was! —Blake
I mean, come on, if there was one example this year of how editing can make or break a movie, it was Inception. —Alex

Biggest snub for me was Ryan Gosling for sure. I mean Javier Bardem over Ryan Gosling? Please. Plus I can't believe Michelle Williams got in, but he didn't. If they both would have been snubbed it would have been one thing, but Gosling was so much better than Williams, though both were amazing, but Gosling gave arguably the best male performance of the year. Certainly better than Bridges, Bardem, and Eisenberg anyway. —Hank

Andrew Garfield was the biggest snub to me. One could argue that Jesse E. shouldn't have been nominated without him, because I feel it's their RELATIONSHIP which makes the film. Same with Michelle (Williams) getting a nom but not Ryan (Gosling). They are both symbiotic performances to me. —Crystal
I completely agree. He drives Jesse Eisenberg?s character, the two of them make it so interesting! —Pamera

What about Julianne Moore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! —Timbo
The fact that this woman does not have one, let alone a half dozen Oscars on her mantle at home is a crime. Each performance she gives is amazing and all of Hollywood should be worshipping the ground this red-headed beauty walks on. —DrewinKC

Surprised there's no Oscar love for The Town — not even in the screenplay category? —shonna
No love for the Beantown boys — The Fighter is in there for best movie, best supporting actor and two best supporting actresses, but no love for Marky Mark? Then you get Renner for The Town — and he deserves it — but no nod for the movie itself, or Ben for directing. You know he can direct — even Blake Lively was good. —BG
The Town!! Ben Affleck outdid himself. What is it going to take for him to be taken seriously again?? —Tina

Robert Duvall. The Academy hates older actors, especially actresses... thus, no love for Barbara Hershey. —Danny

The consensus on the imdb board is that the biggest snub is that Tron: Legacy didn't get a nomination for Visual Effects. —Chris
Yeah this one shocked me. I didn't love the movie plotwise, but the visuals were stunning — I felt like I was in the grid. Not to mention the young Jeff Bridges. —Stef

Mila Kunis deserved a nom. Maybe not the win, but definitely the nomination! —irked
Mila was ROBBED; biggest snub this year! —t.t.

And Waiting for Superman got snubbed for best doc? I thought that was the only lock in that category. Surprised to see it not there. —Mike
No love for Waiting for Superman!? Are you kidding!? —Braxton

I thought Mark Wahlberg would get a nod. He was just as good as Bale in The Fighter. Less showey, but just as good. —T Didz

Diane Warren was snubbed for ''You Haven't Seen the Last of Me'' (Best Original Song). Once again, the song that wins the Golden Globe doesn't even get nominated. Minor snub, but still valid! —Claire K

What about Tangled? It was a great film and had some of the most beautiful animation to date. The voice cast was amazing and the characters were well-developed. —Alice
I agree! I was totally disappointed it didn't get nominated for Best Animated movie. A nomination would have given this movie a boost at the box office that it deserves! —Ann

Lesley Manville's performance in Another Year is terrific and was also deserving of a nod; she too was snubbed in a big way. —John
Lesley Manville for Another Year. Best performance of the year, BAR NONE. That final shot? I cannot even... —Denny

What about Matt Damon in the Supporting Category for True Grit!? So subdued and relaxed yet something pretty surprising happened — I forgot I was watching Matt Damon. He became a pretty integral part of the film's tone. Could it have worked without him? Yes. But he played the part EXACTLY the way it needed to be — not too over-the-top, not too quirky. And I know it's not a remake, but if it's any compensation, he outclassed Glen Campbell in every way (see: True Grit, 1969) —Robert
