MTV Movie Awards 2009: Best and Worst of the Red Carpet
BEST DRESSED LEIGHTON MEESTER
We know from previous red carpets that Leighton doesn't play it anywhere near as safe with style as her small screen alter ego Blair Waldorf. But on a night when nearly everyone was taking a fashion risk, hers (sexy sheer paneling and suede booties) finally worked.
BEST MALIN ACKERMAN
Yes, the sexy white suit has become a red carpet cliche, but the hints of ice blue — from her earrings to her bustier — help keep the Watchmen star looking cool.
WORST VANESSA HUDGENS
Since when did self-tanner become a desirable color to dress oneself in? Besides which, we're not crazy about the slinky cut and ragged hem of the HSM star's (night)gown.
BEST ASHLEY GREENE
Doing her franchise proud, the Twilight star vamped it up with blood-red lips and one hot bustier dress.
WORST LAUREN CONRAD
While jumping ship on The Hills did L.C. also pull the ripcord on her dress? Otherwise there's no excuse for her terribly awkward ruching — or her terribly ratted out hair.
WORST LEANN RIMES
The country singer/Lifetime star sees Tilda Swinton's crumpled garbage bag dress and raises it one dust ruffle.
BEST MEGAN FOX
Now here is a lesson Beyoncé could stand to learn: Brocade is best when served in ultra-mini amounts. (And with that much leg on display we suppose the Transformers star could be forgiven for thinking no one would notice her oddly slicked-back hair.)
WORST TARAJI P. HENSON
While we appreciate that the always chic Oscar nominee wanted to go edgier for the MTV crowd, there's a big difference between fresh and French maid's costume.
BEST SIENNA MILLER
It's possible that Miller nicked her shoulder pads straight off Alexis Carrington, but her backless sequined dress — and dazzling smile — brought some welcome sparkle to the night.
WORST CAMERON DIAZ
Cam loves to go cazh — and usually we're a fan — but there's nothing about this ensemble, from 80s top to blue suede shoes, worth cheering. Might we suggest that Diaz take a style cue from her very cute costars?
SPLIT DECISION MILEY CYRUS
We would applaud the oft-bedazzled star for trying something different with this sophisticated halter — if her nude pumps didn't make this look so Hannah Montana Goes To the Office.
SPLIT DECISION SANDRA BULLOCK
While it's nice to see Miss Congeniality back on the carpet — and in an adorably speckled asymmetric mini — couldn't she have left the not-so-seasonal tights at home?
SPLIT DECISION KRISTEN STEWART
The dress with its fierce pebbling and criss-cross strapping wants to wow the crowd — but the black Converse want to have stayed at home. (Though if reports that the Twilight star had to trade in her heels due to a twisted ankle are true, we hereby name Stewart an honorary best.)
