Lena Dunham: What Do You Like?

''I'm loving Scandal. Right now, I just finished the cabal episode. That guy got shot! Huck is taking matters into his own hands! And Abby and David Rosen broke up, because of that terrible lie! [My boyfriend] Jack [Antonoff] and I talk in Olivia Pope Voice all the time. It's like, 'Why did you call me? 'Cause I'm the best in the business.'''

''My So-Called Life, Felicity, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I listed these as a trilogy because they're three different essential stages of female development — high school, college, and single life — and they can almost be seen as companion pieces. And I'm so impressed that Mary Tyler Moore was created by a man, because that's not the vibe it gives off. James L. Brooks writes some of the greatest women of all time — Holly Hunter in Broadcast News, Debra Winger in Terms of Endearment — so it's not shocking that he should create these incredible roles for Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper, but it's pleasing.

''I'm late to the Grimes party, but I saw a video she did [for her song ''Genesis''] that was haunting. When I found out that she directed it, I was like, This person has complete control of her universe, and a total vision for an odd way that the world could work, and I love it.''

''I got into Joni Mitchell via my mother. It's such beautiful, emotional music, and she's funny, and she's sad, and it's sexy. She's like the kind of female characters that I like to write. There's a lot of ambiguity and complexity there.''

''I went to see Take This Waltz alone, and I thought Michelle Williams' character was deeply relatable and simple, yet dark. It was the saddest! I love when a movie takes something so mundane, like the challenges of everyday life with another person, and makes it into the most emotional wrecking ball of a thing. Sarah Polley has such amazing craft as a filmmaker.''

''Right now, I'm reading Wendy and the Lost Boys, the Wendy Wasserstein biography. She was one of the first adult writers I ever read. I was obsessed with [her play] The Heidi Chronicles. She was sort of around downtown when I was growing up, so I'd always be hearing about the Wendy Wasserstein legend. I think I saw her at a party once. You could've knocked me over with a feather.''

''I love Lolita. I read it for the first time in fourth grade, because I was told that it had sexy parts. And because Nabokov is such a good writer, I was unable to find any of the sexy parts. Obviously, elderly men should not molest young women, but it has this incredible ability to flip the tables and remind you that characters are complex and humans are troubled.''
''My favorite websites are rookiemag.com and petfinder.org! I like the oatmeal at McDonald's and the iced green tea at Starbucks and the borough of Brooklyn and the country of Sweden!''
