Jacob Tremblay, Awards Season MVP
Jacob Tremblay is having a very good year. The 9-year-old actor earned critical raves for his role in Room, and as the film has made its way through the awards season circuit so too has Tremblay, winning everyone’s hearts as he rubbed elbows with stars, gave charming speeches, and even showed off a few dance moves.
He may not have gotten an Oscar nomination (this year, at least), but if there was a category for 2016’s awards season MVP, he’d have it locked down.
Celebrating His SAG Award Nomination with Ice Cream
He didn’t end up winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (more on that later), but when nominations were announced in December 2015, Tremblay celebrated properly: with a banana split.
Meeting J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg at the AFI Awards
“The mind of me right now is so blown,” Tremblay tweeted after meeting the famed filmmakers. (Yes, he has Twitter account, and his bio is adorable: “Actor. Lego Enthusiast. Star Wars Fanatic.”)
Getting Golden Globes Photos with Michael B. Jordan, Oscar Isaac, and Chris Evans
“Met some of my favorite actors tonight,” Tremblay wrote on Instagram, assembling an all-star squad of which grown adults would be jealous. “I had a blast!”
Being the Best Cheerleader Ever for Brie Larson
Introducing the World to His 'Hot Dad'
When Tremblay brought his parents as his Golden Globes dates, the Internet quickly took notice of the youngster’s father — who, yes, is pretty good looking.
Staging a Lightsaber Battle with Oscar Isaac
Being a 9-year-old Star Wars fan isn’t that uncommon, but being a 9-year-old Star Wars fan who gets to actually battle Poe Dameron at a Golden Globes afterparty certainly is.
Celebrating the Oscar Nominations for Room
His Charming Critics’ Choice Awards Speech…
Upon winning best young actor at the ceremony, Tremblay gave what’ll likely be the most adorable speech of the year. “This is super cool. This is the best day of my life,” he told the crowd, adding that he knew just the place to put the award: “on the shelf, right beside my Millennium Falcon.”
…Followed by his Charming Critics’ Choice Dance Moves…
How did Tremblay celebrate his big win, you ask? By getting down to “his favorite jam” — “Uptown Funk,” naturally.
…and Also Getting to Meet BB-8
“My favorite celebrity encounter!!” Tremblay captioned an Instagram photo. The Force is strong with this one.
Presenting an Award (Adorably) at the SAG Awards
No sore losers here. After losing the supporting actor category to Beasts of No Nation‘s Idris Elba, Tremblay jokingly reminisced about it while presenting another category with Brie Larson later in the show. “I can still remember the first time I got nominated for a SAG Award,” he said. “I was only 9 years old, and I was competing against Batman.” (Christian Bale was also nominated in his category.)
Meeting Leonardo DiCaprio at the SAG Awards
The only thing better than this photo is the story Tremblay later told about getting it. “I just walked straight up to him and I noticed a huge line of people trying to meet him,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “And I was just like, ‘Oh, I’m a kid. I can skip it.’ So I skipped it and just said, ‘Hi.’”
And his ‘Fellow Canadian’ Rachel McAdams
Another of Tremblay’s star sightings from the SAG Awards, which he posted on Instagram with the Canada-appropriate hashtag #eh.
Striking Poses with Idris Elba
After presenting an award to Elba for Luther during the SAG Awards ceremony, the two snapped a photo together at one of the afterparties.
Knocking out Sylvester Stallone
The man behind Rocky Balboa let Tremblay throw a (faux) punch at the Oscar nominees luncheon in February 2016. “Hangin’ with the Champ!” he wrote on Instagram.
And Becoming Nickname Twins with Jennifer Lawrence
“J-Trem meets J-Law,” he captioned this meet-and-greet. Jacob Tremblay, may the awards season cuteness odds be ever in your favor.
Becoming 'Best Buddies' With Johnny Depp
At the Governors Awards in November 2015, Tremblay crossed paths with Depp and, per the young star, the pair forged a fast friendship. “Last night I met my favorite actor #JohnnyDepp! We are now best buddies! #Mindblown,” he tweeted.
Making New Mountie Friends
Repping his home province of British Columbia, Tremblay attended the 3rd annual Evening With Canada’s Stars in Los Angeles, Calif. Ever the charmer, he found new friends in two members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Hanging Out With Abraham Attah at Universal Studios
Before the Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 27 — where Tremblay was a presenter and Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah won an award — the pair narrowly escaped a dinosaur attack at Universal Studios Hollywood. “#AbrahamAttah and I almost got eaten today!” Tremblay captioned an Instagram video.
Presenting With Falcon (a.k.a. Anthony Mackie)
At the Independent Spirit Awards, Tremblay (jokingly) marveled that he got to present an award with his hero — a Marvel hero, to be exact. “Is it hard to fly with those heavy metal wings? Where’s Red Wing, your highly trained hunting falcon who joins you in battle against your enemies?” he asked Mackie on stage. (“It looks like we’re having a Santa Claus issue,” the Avengers actor replied.)
