AMAs 2016: The Best and Worst Dressed
The Best and Worst of the 2016 AMAs
Famous faces turned out on Sunday, Nov. 20, for the 2016 American Music Awards. Stars from Lady Gaga to Heidi Klum to Selena Gomez to Chrissy Teigen and John Legend walked the red carpet outside of Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater ahead of the annual affair, showing off their awards show attire. While some celebs impressed with daring ensembles, classic gowns, and chic looks, other missed the mark, either taking their styles a step too far or not quite stepping up to the plate for the swanky celebration. See the best and worst dressed celebrities at the 2016 American Music Awards, ahead.
BEST: Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande brought her signature ponytail to the AMAs red carpet, looking stylish in a pair of white Alexander McQueen trousers and a vintage black lace lingerie top.
BEST: Niall Horan
Niall Horan ditched his boy band style and went full-on dapper leading man, pairing a well-cut grey suit with a pocket square, brown shoes, and retro frames.
BEST: Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid went high-fashion for her hosting gig, opting for an ornate white lace Roberto Cavalli dress and a metallic choker.
Leave it to Ciara to make maternity wear incredibly chic. The singer, who is expecting a child with husband Russell Wilson, glowed in a black-and-white gown with a full skirt and high neck.
BEST: Jay Pharoah
Jay Pharoah looked sharp in a well-cut blue suit ahead of his AMAs hosting debut. The former Saturday Night Live star added a black tie and shoes and an eye-catching timepiece.
BEST: Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae was Cruella de Vil-fabulous in a plush black-and-white striped coat over a black-and-white dress with black-and-white heels.
BEST: Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez went classic in a figure-hugging crimson gown, worn with a simple low ponytail and a smoky eye.
BEST: Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga was white-hot in a simple suit of wide-leg trousers and a plunging blazer, worn with a wide-brimmed hat and heels.
WORST: Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel went a little too Wicked at the AMAs, wearing a black dress with a sheer skirt adorned with a witchy spider web applique.
WORST: Z LaLa
Singer Z LaLa was as bold as ever on the AMAs red carpet, turning heads not just for her body-baring, latex sheer ensemble, but also for her towering, gelled, jet-black hairstyle.
WORST: Blake Jenner
Blake Jenner kept it a tad too casual at the star-studded awards show, wearing a leather jacket over an all-black outfit and rocking a few days of scruff.
WORST: Julianne Hough
Julianne Hough went full pastel, pairing her high-waisted miniskirt with a textured top in candy-colored shades.
WORST: Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum was more Tin Man than supermodel in a metallic jumpsuit complete with puffed sleeves and a bow at the neckline.
WORST: Matt Bomer
Matt Bomer is normally as sharp-dressed as any actor, but his boxy suit and muted shirt and tie left us feeling a little underwhelmed.
