25 Oscar Snubs Driving You Nuts!

(500) Days of Summer
The Blind Side nom [for best picture] is bull crap. No (500) Days of Summer is even bigger bull crap. It should have made the list even if there were only 5 picture noms. —Moss

Julianne Moore in A Single Man
Julianne Moore being shut out of a [supporting actress] nomination in favor of Cruz and Gyllenhaal was a travesty. Gyllenhaal was the single worst thing about Crazy Heart: I didn't believe a minute of her performance (and her Southern accent was as laughable as Gerard Butler's ''American'' one). And Cruz seemed to be coasting on the fumes of her Vicky Cristina Barcelona win last year. —amielle

The Hangover
Dear Academy of Voting for the Oscars: I understand that it's rare to nominate a comedy for any Oscar, but you could've thrown The Hangover a bone or two. No Best Supporting Actor nomination for Zach Galifianakis or Best Original Song nomination for ''Stu's Song'' by Ed Helms? It's not like it was the highest grossing [R-rated] comedy...of all time, right? Oh wait, it was. —Kerri

Emily Blunt for Young Victoria
Emily Blunt was snubbed! Since when does the Academy not adore real-life portrayals of epic members of history? A fantastic [Best Actress] performance completely overlooked! —Claire K

Where the Wild Things Are
I honestly would have put Where the Wild Things Are in so many categories including: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (little Max Records), Best Costume Design (HELLO, 6-foot-tall hairy creations anyone??), Best Adapted Screenplay (who else would dare adapt a 12-page children's book into a feature film?), and Best Song. —katie

Anthony Mackie in The Hurt Locker
It was so sad [he didn't score a Supporting Actor nod]. They were on the Today show, and Kathryn [Bigelow, the director] and Jeremy [Renner, the lead actor] are nominated, but not him. Too bad — because he is the heartbeat of that film. —helno

Fantastic Mr. Fox
I didn't like Up at all. But Fantastic Mr. Fox was definitely one of my favorites of the year. I'm upset over the Adapted Screenplay snub! —Hannah

Mélanie Laurent in Inglourious Basterds
I think either of the Basterds ladies would have been worthy nominees, slight preference to Mélanie Laurent [over Diane Kruger]. The scene with Shoshanna and Landa at the restaurant alone should have been enough to get Ms. Laurent a [Supporting Actress] nom! —Celimene

The Messenger
I didn't necessarily expect it to get in, but I'm bummed that The Messenger wasn't a Best Picture nominee. —Jim

Star Trek
I can understand The Hangover not being nominated for Best Picture (even though it was hilarious) but Star Trek being snubbed (with the exception of make-up, sound and visual effects)? Though it would most likely not have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, Star Trek still should have been recognized [with a Best Picture nom]. Not only did it reboot a timeless series for this generation, but it was also incredibly well-acted (with the exception of Eric Bana — sorry, Hulk). C'mon, Oscars!! The whole point of expanding the number of nominees was to be able to recognize fan favorites that don't typically get recognized. Star Trek deserved better. —teris

Abbie Cornish in Bright Star
I knew it would never happen but I was hoping for Abbie Cornish in Bright Star [to get a Best Actress nom]. She was amazing! When will the academy start recognizing true achievements and stop rewarding popularity? —richrich

The Road
The Road! I wasn't that surprised that it wasn't nominated [for Best Picture], since it never got much attention. But, as a wonderfully depressing movie with beautiful acting, I thought it was prime Oscar bait. At least an acting nod to Viggo. I'm disappointed this movie was completely snubbed. —Ally

Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds

Clint Eastwood for Invictus
They didn't recognize Clint Eastwood [for Best Director] again! The Academy is so biased against him! First Gran Torino and now Invictus! You have got to be kidding me!!! —jessica

Ponyo
For me, Ponyo was the biggest snub. Best animated film I saw last year. When the movie ended, I sat there just feeling joy bubbling through me. (I suspect Academy members never saw it, because if they had, it would have been nominated!) —Cara

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
The best movie of 2009, which most people either hated or never saw, was Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. It was the only release of 2009 that I could describe as ''original.'' —Matt the Knife

Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes
I regret that Robert Downey Jr. didn't get recognized [with a Best Actor nom] for Sherlock Holmes. I loved his performance. George Clooney was good in Up in the Air, but not exceptional. —Ellen

Sharlto Copley in District 9
Saw it coming, but I still would've liked a nomination for Sharlto Copley for Best Actor. He gave one of the best leading performances I saw this past year, portraying a realistically freaked-out, normal guy being transformed into an alien. No spontaneous alien love story a la Avatar. Wikus is a complex, well-thought-out character — and I can't see anyone doing a better job than Copley did. —Sarah El
