LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY (2001-2003)
It's a dangerous business stepping out your door, Bilbo tells Frodo, since you never know where you may end up. The road is a crucible of character for dreamy Frodo (Elijah Wood) and timid Sam (Sean Astin), forging them into heroes capable of courageous acts they never dreamed they could accomplish. Bonus points for making the entire journey barefoot.

I refuse to read any book designated an ''OPRAH BOOK.'' Every time she recommends a new novel, millions of housewives everywhere apparently lose the ability to find a book to read on their own. And though I am not a housewife, I refuse to be blinded by that blindingly inane Oprah pick sticker. —collins

I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies and I plan on never seeing them. I've also never seen the Godfather movies or any episode of The Sopranos. I just don't like the mob! And vampires — I'm against vampires. Which means, BUFFY and TWILIGHT — yeah, I'm not watching! Sorry! But I have seen every episode of Gossip Girl, so I've got that going for me. Which is good. —NineDaves

JIM CAVIEZEL
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
WHAT IT IS Mel Gibson's ancient-language take on Jesus's final 12 hours, which withstood controversy over its extreme gore and alleged anti-Semitic content to become one of the top-grossing movies of all time.
FINAL JUDGMENT Until he booked CBS series Person of Interest, Caviezel's post-Passion career was less than heavenly. Maybe he should have made another movie in Aramaic.

I've never seen an episode of FRIENDS...which I would probably love, yet I just don't care enough to go back and start from the beginning. I just learned last week that the song ''I'll Be There for You'' was the theme song. My friends were disgusted with me. —Emily
