Julia Louis-Dreyfus wins sixth straight Best Comedy Actress Emmy

This is Meyer’s moment.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won the award for Outstanding Comedy Actress in a Leading Role and with that, has broken anotherrecord. With Sunday’s win, Louis-Dreyfus has the most Emmy wins in a singular role beating out Candice Bergen’s previous record as the titular character in Murphy Brown.

“We have a great final season that we’re about to start filming with a lot of surprises that our fabulous writers have cooked up,” Louis-Dreyfus said after her thank-yous. “We did have a whole story line about an impeachment, but we abandoned that because we were worried that someone else might get to it first.”

This is the Veep‘s star sixth consecutive trophy for her role as Selina Meyer in the hit HBO comedy series and eighth overall, previously winning for her supporting role as Seinfeld‘sElaine Benes and leading role as Christine from The New Adventures of Old Christine. She holds the record for the most wins in the lead actress category with seven overall.

It was announced earlier in September that the upcoming seventh season of Veep would be its last.

The other nominees in the category included Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Jane Fonda (Grace & Frankie), Allison Janney (Mom), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), and Lily Tomlin (Grace & Frankie).
