Jackie Hoffman may not have taken home Emmy gold Sunday night, but she’s continuing her campaign for the Emmy’s “Pettiest of Them All” (and the internet can’t tell if she’s joking).

Hoffman, who was nominated for her role as Mamacita, Joan Crawford’s loyal maid in Feud: Bette and Joan, shocked audiences with her reaction to her loss at the 69th annual Emmy Awards.

Hoffman lost to Laura Dern in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama or Limited Series category. When Dern’s name was called, Hoffman yelled, “Damn it, damn it” and hit the chair in front of her.

She then trolled Dern on Twitter, writing, “Laura Dern had famous parents. Forgive me for being from real people #elitism #Emmys2017.” Several minutes later, she followed that up with another tweet against Dern, writing, “I hear that Laura Dern runs a child porn ring #soreloser Emmys2017.” Hoffman also adopted the hashtag #losercita in reference to her character’s name.

Many assumed Hoffman’s reaction was genuine and called her out for her decidedly ungracious loss on social media. However, the odds are this is just part of Hoffman’s spoof of Joan Crawford’s infamous 1963 Academy Awards spitefulness. As depicted on Feud, Crawford responded to her Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Oscar snub by calling every other nominee in the category and offering to accept on their behalf in an effort to steal the spotlight from rival Bette Davis.

Hoffman sent up this ripped-from-the-headlines plot line with her Emmy campaign video, where she “called” all of her fellow nominees and offered to accept on their behalf.

Given that Hoffman’s Twitter bio reads, “http://I’m kidding,” we expect her Crawford-esque Emmy night behavior was just her version of playing the long game on this joke.

But as with much Hollywood gossip, we may never know the truth.
