Cicely Tyson, one of the stars of TV’s most memorable miniseries, got a standing ovation at the 69th annual Emmy Awards Sunday when presenting the award for Outstanding Limited Series to Big Little Lies.

The introduction of the Roots star and Tony winner Anika Noni Rose prompted the crowd, including Oprah Winfrey and Dolly Parton, to rise to their feet.

Tyson had to pause a few times, leading to Rose whispering into her co-presenter’s ear. “I’m so nervous, I don’t know why,” admitted Tyson.

The legendary actress took the stage 40 years after starring as Binta in the original Roots miniseries. For the role, she scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie. In all, Tyson, who in recent years has appeared on House of Cards and How to Get Away With Murder, has been nominated for 13 Emmys, emerging victorious three times.
