This Is Us scores 11 Emmy nominations
And Sterling K. Brown's reaction is priceless
The Pearsons are going to the Emmys. With a slew of nominations.
This Is Us scored an impressive 11 nominations, including the coveted Outstanding Drama Series nod. While five of the seven nominees were first-year shows in the categories, the NBC family drama stands out as the only network series in the bunch, the lone flag-waver that high-quality, essential TV can still happen in the broadcast realm. (It’s the first Big Four drama to get nominated in since CBS’ The Good Wife six years ago.)
This Is Us also scored four nominations for the series regulars (Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, and Ron Cephas Jones) as well as three more for in the guest acting category (Denis O’Hare, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gerald McRaney). The show was further recognized in the casting, costumes, and make-up categories.
Sterling K. Brown celebrated the news by tweeting an illustration of his character, Randall, with his biological father, William (Jones) and adoptive dad (Ventimiglia). “Me and my two dads are going to the emmys!” he wrote. “Thank you @TelevisionAcad for honoring us all (& my sister!) #ThisIsUs”
Mandy Moore, who did not receive a nomination, congratulated her co-stars, tweeting “I am unbelieving proud of my #thisisus fam! Congrats @sterlingkb1, @ChrissyMetz, @MiloVentimiglia and #roncephasjones! Wowowowow!”
Meanwhile, series creator Dan Fogelman chimed in, tweeting: “#ThisIsUs set gonna be going OFF today!!! So proud of this group. Nice things happening to nice people.”
This Is Us returns to NBC for season 2 on Sept. 26.
