Deadpool 2 skips Comic-Con
Comic-Con was a chimichanga-free zone on Thursday afternoon, as Deadpool 2 was absent from the 20th Century Fox presentation inside Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center.
Fox, which will release the highly anticipated sequel on June 1, 2018, showcased its forthcoming sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle with stars Taron Egerton, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Colin Firth, Pedro Pascal, and Jeff Bridges — and never mentioned Deadpool 2 on its schedule for the panel. Fans, however, speculated that a Deadpool surprise could be in store, especially after actor Stefan Kapičić (who plays Colossus in the franchise) tweeted about coming to San Diego.
Deadpool made a splash at Comic-Con in 2015 with riotous R-rated trailer, and it famously scored a boost at the 2014 convention when test footage shot years before for a Deadpool movie leaked online. “I had just come home from the train station,” original director Tim Miller told EW in 2015 of the leak. “And my phone explodes with Google alerts about Deadpool. I immediately wrote Fox and said, ‘I swear I didn’t leak this.’ People still think I did — I didn’t. But the response from the fans was overwhelming, and it ultimately triggered a green light. Within two months we were in preproduction.”
Deadpool 2 brings Ryan Reynolds back as the Merc with a Mouth with new cast members Josh Brolin (as the mutant Cable), Atlanta costar Zazie Beetz (as Domino), and Jack Kesy (reportedly set as the villain). Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, and Leslie Uggams are also returning for the film, which David Leitch will direct.
Production on Deadpool 2 began last month.
