The Vampire Diaries is reaching its final days in the sunlight, but the cast is excited to share their climactic send-off.
Stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice King, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig, Matt Davis, Michael Malarkey, and executive producer Julie Plec stopped by EW’s studio at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday to talk all things “Big Bad” in the upcoming final season.
The series, which will have run for eight seasons, has brought fans into a world of vampires, love triangles, and mortal/immortal danger. While there are still many secrets revolving around how the plot will end, the cast is giving small details to tease new possibilities. “I got a green light from the real ‘Big Bad,’ or the boss,” reveals Graham. “It’s a female.”
The gang has faced their fair share of powerful villains, but it seems like the series is going out with the bang. “What I like about this villain in particular is that everyone has a dark secret and there’s something about this villain that knows what it is,” states Davis. “It can see the evil that you try to hide within yourself.” With that high praise, the cast seems ready for the end, despite the sadness of the series ending.
With a final note, the structure that fans have come to know in past seasons will be tweaked a tad. “We’re not doing the flash-forwards and the flashbacks like we did last year,” states Pec on the format of the final season. “We’ll still dabble in the past, visit memories, that sort of thing.”
