Before Troye Sivan kicks off The Suburbia Tour this fall, he’ll be heading to San Diego Comic-Con to perform a kick-off concert at Con-X, hosted by EW. The Australian singer really hopes the performance will be something unique and different from what he has planned for the tour.

“I definitely think it’s going to be more intimate than the tour is going to be because the tour is going to be in big, big venues,” Sivan, whose debut album Blue Neighbourhood was released in December, tells EW about his upcoming performance on Wednesday. “It’s going to be during sunset, which will be really, really nice.”

He adds, “San Diego, I’m obsessed with it. I’ve always thought I could live there. So, I’m excited to go there and I just picture it being really pretty and nice.”

The “Wild” singer has come a long way in the past year and a half. Since his first live show, he’s viewed every performance as an opportunity to grow as an artist. “Less than a year ago, I played my first ever show and so this year, for me, I’ve been on such a steep learning curve and experienced so much and learned so much about myself and about music and about people in general that it’s pretty mind-blowing to think how much has changed in my life from this time last year,” he says.

Even though he’s never done something like Comic-Con before, he isn’t nervous. “I’m having more fun on stage than I ever had before,” he says. “Once I sort of worked through my nerves, like felt super, super comfortable and at home on stage, that was a big moment for me that’s probably going to shape the rest of my life because it informs what I can do for the rest of my life.”

The 21-years old musician has also teamed up with SweeTARTs, who is presenting his Con-X performance for the brand’s new “Follow Your TART” campaign, which aims to encourage people to boldly follow their passions. “That’s something I really, really try to push all the time in my own life and then try and get my audience to do so as well,” says Sivan. “[Performing at Comic Con] seemed like the perfect fit.”

Sivan is particularly excited about the performance because it will be his first time at Comic-Con. “I’m hoping to see some really good cosplaying,” he says. “I might try and walk around a bit and see it. I’ve just heard it’s such a spectacle and such an incredible convention.”

Although Sivan admits he isn’t that good at the game, the singer is also looking forward to playing Pokémon Go at the Convention Center. “There’s going to be so much going on Pokémon-wise at Comic Con. That’s going to be nuts. I just got more excited,” he says.

Sivan will perform Wednesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. local time at Horton Plaza Park in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter. Con-X will be open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. local time, and then Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time. Head to the Con-X website for more details.
