New York Comic Con: Shadowhunters cast talks Jace and Clary
ABC Freeform will debut Shadowhunters, its adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, in January, but fans got a sneak peak at the show’s first six minutes at New York Comic Con on Saturday.
The teasing continued when the cast — Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr., and Isaiah Mustafa — stopped by the EW and Sirius XM booth inside New York’s Javits Center to discuss the series, and how the show will handle its key relationship between Jace (Sherwood) and Clary (McNamara).
“What we’ve kind of always said throughout — the best allegory I can surmise — if you imagine the books to be the skeleton, the TV show is the body,” Sherwood said. “We’ve kept true to the bones, as it were, but the way we’ve dressed it up, it’s ABC Family-slash-Freeform way of dressing up the show. We keep true to most of it. It’s not like Jace hooks up with Simon (Rosende).”
Added McNamara, “We get to go places the book didn’t go to. We still go from point A to point B, but the journey through which we get there is a little different. It’s our own interpretation, our own journey. I really think fans both of the book, and new fans of the Shadow World will enjoy it.”
Shadowhunters is set to debut on Jan. 12. A breakdown of the show’s Comic Con panel can be found here.
