Shadowhunters, the new TV series based on The Mortal Instruments YA book series, is set to premiere Jan. 12 on Freeform (currently ABC Family).

The show will air at 9 p.m. ET following Pretty Little Liars. Ahead of the premiere, a “Making of Shadowhunters” segment will air Dec. 6 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Showrunner Ed Decter announced the news at the Shadowhunters panel at New York Comic-Con. He was joined by executive producer McG, author Cassandra Clare, and the stars of the show, Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Harry Shum, Jr., Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Alberto Rosende, and Isaiah Mustafa.

The show follows 18-year-old Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), who discovers that she comes from a line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids who hunt demons. After her mother is kidnapped, Clare encounters a new world of faeries, vampires, werewolves, and warlocks.

The first trailer of Shadowhunters was recently released, giving viewers a glimpse of the demon-hunting world.
