Heroes fans were treated to a new, extended trailer and a big surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con’s Heroes Reborn panel on Sunday.
Returning cast member Greg Grunberg moderated the panel, which featured Tim Kring as well as cast members Jack Coleman, Zachary Levi, Robbie Kay, Ryan Guzman, Gatlin Green, Henry Zebrowski, Judith Shekoni, Danika Yarosh, and Rya Kihlstedt. Jimmy Jean-Louis dropped by a little later.
The group chatted a bit about their characters (in pretty vague terms), and eventually Grunberg announced that a certain actor who wasn’t in attendance had left a video message for the crowd. That actor was none other than fan favorite Masi Oka (as indicated by the massive audience applause when he appeared on screen), who looked as though he was trying to teleport at the end of the message.
Seconds later, he appeared in Hall H, after taking over EW‘s Instagram account, documenting his trip to San Diego.
“I thought it was awesome,” Oka says of his initial reaction to the show’s return. “It had [a lot of] heart and we had a lot of fans and we kind of left it unfinished, so there’s a chance to wrap things up for the fans.”
In addition to surprise guests, the panel also featured an extended trailer of creator Tim Kring’s reboot, which you can watch here:
Heroes Reborn premieres on Sept. 24 and will air at 8 p.m. ET on Thursdays. Check out the casts interview with EW at Comic-Con below.
