One of Stan Lee's final projects introduces a new superhero universe — get the first details

You haven’t heard the last of Stan Lee.

EW has confirmed that this summer, Audible will premiere Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light, a years-in-the-making audio event which introduces a new connected universe of stories and characters. “Years in the making, Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light is one of the cultural icon’s final collaborations and returns him to his creative roots as he explores the complex relationship between humankind, science and technology,” Audible said in a statement.

Lee lent his own voice for the new production, which is a first-of-its-kind audio experience that was completed by Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment. (You can listen to Lee introduce the project in the teaser above.) Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light is co-written by Kat Rosenfield (Amelia Anne Is Dead and Gone), and co-created by Luke Lieberman and Ryan Silbert, and will serve as an opening installment. The Alliances project will continue to move forward in Lee’s memory.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light introduces listeners to a mysterious young woman, Nia, whose fate is intertwined with a seemingly ordinary Midwestern teenager, Cameron Ackerson, whose quest for YouTube stardom takes him to the heart of the Great Lakes Triangle, where he is imbued with the power to ‘see’ and ‘hear’ a new reality. As Nia and Cameron’s relationship grows, they conspire to create a more righteous online universe, dishing out justice big and small, but wind up crossing a shadowy outfit called OPTIC, which goes after them for its own nefarious purposes. Meanwhile, a threat of galactic proportions emerges, imperiling humanity’s very existence by harnessing our individual desire to connect as the very means to destroy us.”

“Stan had the uncanny ability to see around the corner and recognize the cultural moment, then create story and characters that beg the deeper questions,” Lieberman and Silbert added. “Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light follows in this tradition. As his cocreators and, most importantly, his fans, we can’t wait for other fans to discover this world on Audible.”
