The story behind some of your favorite pop culture characters will be revealed in a new book series, EW can exclusively reveal.

The newest entrant in the Who HQ library is What Is the Story Of?, a spin-off that will tell the true stories behind beloved fictional characters. The series will launch April 16 with the publication of What Is the Story of Scooby-Doo? and What Is the Story of Hello Kitty?, with explorations of Wonder Woman, Frankenstein, Doctor Who, and the Wizard of Oz to roll out later in 2019.

Every 11 seconds, a Who HQ book is sold somewhere in the world, and there are currently more than 35 million Who HQ books in print worldwide. Netflix’s The Who Was? Show, adapted from the Who Was? book series, was recently nominated for six Daytime Emmys, and featured a star-studded lineup of guest stars including Ellie Kemper and John Oliver.

“We’re really excited to launch What Is the Story of?, a new line in the Who HQ universe,” Francesco Sedita, president and publisher of Penguin Workshop, said in a statement. “We’ve made history collectible and engaging for kids through the Who?/What?/Where? books, but popular culture is part of history, too, and we realized we could take a thrilling next step by telling our readers the fascinating origin stories of some of their favorite characters, like Hello Kitty, Scooby-Doo, Wonder Woman… and so many more to come.”

Penguin Young Readers has exclusively shared covers for its 2019 What Is the Story Of? line with EW, which you can see below. To get you started, books on Hello Kitty and Scooby-Doo are available for pre-order.
