The exhibit is coming to the New York Historical Society in October 2018
Harry Potter was born in Britain, but it’s always had just as passionate a fanbase on the other side of the pond. And so, having made its rounds at the British Library, the exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic will come to the New York Historical Society this fall. Official dates have now been announced: The exhibit will run from Oct. 5, 2018 – Jan. 27, 2019. Tickets will go on sale for New York Historical members starting Feb. 14, and to the general public in April.
Intended to mark the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, A History of Magic will take viewers through both the history of the franchise (via early drafts and sketches by author J.K. Rowling and illustrator Jim Kay) and the real-life history of folklore and magic that influenced the creation of Harry’s world. The exhibit even comes with its own companion book: Harry Potter: A Journey Through a History of Magic.
It’s shaping up to be a big year for Potter fans. In addition to A History of Magic, 2018 will also see the debut of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, as well as the cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
