Tiffany Haddish finally met Meryl Streep on the Oscars red carpet
Watch a dream come true at the Academy Awards
Tiffany Haddish continued her ascent to the top of Hollywood on this year’s Oscars red carpet, where she linked up with Meryl Streep.
Talking to Ryan Seacrest during E!’s red carpet show, Haddish noted that one big wish for this year’s ceremony was to meet Streep. The dream finally came true when Haddish saw the Oscars icon and darted over to her.
Determined to take advantage of the opportunity, Haddish walked over a velvet rope as Streep approached. The video above does not reveal their quick exchange — fans will have to wait for Haddish to relive the moment in an interview — but it does show their big hug and Haddish curtsying in front of Streep.
“You know, my father passed away this past year and he’s from Eritrea, and he said, ‘One day you’re going to end up at the Oscars and when you go you have to honor your people.’ So I’m wearing an Eritrean authentic princess dress and I’m proud of it,” Haddish told Seacrest earlier Sunday. “I’m looking forward to meeting Meryl Strep and asking her to be my mamma, I’m looking forward to having drinks with Whoopi Goldberg, I’m looking forward to doing the Nae Nae with everybody, and I’m definitely looking forward to doing my presentation presenting the Oscars.”
Streep is nominated for Best Actress this year for her performance as Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham in Steven Spielberg’s The Post. Haddish had her own acclaimed performance in Girls Trip. Though she did not ultimately get a nomination for the comedy, she will be presenting during the ceremony.
