Childish Gambino brought his acclaimed album Awaken, My Love to the Grammys on Sunday, performing the standout track “Terrified.” It was the rapper-singer’s first time playing the annual awards show. He was joined onstage by JD McCrary, who’s set to play Young Simba in the upcoming live-action Lion King film (Glover will be playing older Simba).

Awaken, My Love!, Glover’s third studio album, released in Dec. 2016 and marked a stylistic departure for the musician. Glover ditched his patented nerd rap stylings for a 1970s funk-inspired compilation that featured way more singing and no rap. The album’s breakout track was the Prince-reminiscent single “Redbone,” which received three Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Traditional R&B performance. The album itself also received two nominations, including Album of the Year.

With his acting work on FX’s Atlanta and the forthcoming Han Solo movie Solo, everything has been rather quiet on the music front for Glover since the album was released; however, that’s expected to change. Earlier this week, Glover and his creative agency Wolf + Rothstein partnered with RCA Records for a new recording and label deal, and Glover is expected to release new music via Wolf + Rothstein/RCA Records.

Until new music arrives, however, you can see Glover on Atlanta, which returns for its second season March 1.
