Cardi B continued her storybook ascent on Sunday night with a raucous, ’90s-inspired performance at the Grammy Awards. Joined on stage by fellow nominee Bruno Mars, the two traded verses on the remix to Mars’ “Finesse.”
Audience members at Madison Square Garden were treated to a dance-heavy live version of the music video, which pays homage to In Living Color.
The Bronx native was nominated for two Grammys this year, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, for her breakout single, “Bodak Yellow.” “It’s the Grammys. I hope a b—- takes one,” said Cardi at a pre-Grammys performance. “Let me take it to The Bronx.”
Cardi recently hit a Billboard milestone, placing four songs simultaneously in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart — “Bodak Yellow” at No. 5, her featured spot on G-Eazy’s “No Limit” at No. 2, “Motorsport” with Migos and Nicki Minaj at No. 3, and “Bartier Cardi” with 21 Savage at No. 9 — for the second week in a row.
Cardi is rumored to be dropping her debut studio album sometime in 2018.
Mars won six Grammys at this year’s show, including Album of the Year (24K Magic), Record of the Year (“24K Magic”), Song of the Year (“That’s What I Like”), Best R&B Album (24K Magic), Best R&B Performance (“That’s What I Like”), and Best R&B Song (“That’s What I Like”).
