“City of Stars” is shining Golden Globes gold down on La La Land.
The track from the Ryan Gosling- and Emma Stone-starring film won Best Original Song at the Globes ceremony on Sunday night, adding to the awards tally for Damien Chazelle’s hit musical, which also won the Globe for Best Original Score.
“City of Stars” features music penned by composer Justin Hurwitz and lyrics by Dear Evan Hansen duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. It’s first heard in the film sung by Gosling’s character, Sebastian, and then again later as a duet between him and Stone’s character, Mia.
“I always start at the piano before I orchestrate anything,” Hurwitz previously told EW of working on La La Land’s memorable music. “I’m always just working at the piano trying to find the melodies, and that can be a very, very long process. I spent about two years composing the music before we even shot the movie. I did a little over 1,900 piano demos, just trying to find themes that we think are going to stick in people’s minds.”
