A lot of the fun of listening to guitar-heavy rock music comes from jamming along to the songs with imaginary air guitar. On Monday night, Jimmy Fallon and Michael Fassbender turned that tradition into a competition with Air Guitar Battle, a contest in which the two tried to outdo each other with intense guitar motions.

Each of them went with classics of the genre. Fallon chose Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town” for his song, and proceeded to buck back and forth as he jammed along. Fassbender outdid him, however, with Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train,” stalking the stage in tune with the classic hit. Fallon admitted Fassbender had clearly won, but the two still joined forces for a final duet — although this time, they switched out their air guitars for air banjos.
